What’s missing from the public conversation about prostitution — and what continues to be missing despite Magnanti’s confession — are nuanced portrayals of both the attractions and risks of sex work.
Right. Because the public is pretty hell bent on ignoring such portrayals in spite of fact that plenty of sex worker blogs, activist organizations, and (ahem) certain magazines aren’t catering to to the dichotomy. (But how silly is it to criticize Magnanti for not trying to take this on? She’s not a prostitute anymore, and the media seems pretty keen on manipulating her story and sensationalizing/criticizing her more than presenting anything insightful.)
